The Measure CC property tax has a mere 145 votes keeping it alive.
According to state law, bond measures need 55 percent of the vote in order to pass. Measure CC currently has 26,207 yes votes to 21,177 no votes. That puts it at 55.31 percent approval.
To put that into perspective, 26,062 votes equal 55 percent out of the total 47,384 votes. In other words, only 145 votes is keeping the contractor-backed property tax measure alive!
As reported below, Measure CC began last night with 59.12 percent of the vote with each proceeding ballot dump pushing it further down. At one point it reached 55.27 percent approval but has since inched up some.
The Lakewood Populist will keep you updated on this story and other newsworthy, hyper-local election news. See below for previous updates.

A local property tax increase, freedom, as well as law and order are all on the line tonight and however long it takes for the incompetent County of Los Angeles to count the people’s ballots. The Lakewood Populist will update you with results as they come in. See below.
UPDATE 2 - Local freedom hero in a fight for state assembly 67
In what is turning out to be an evening of reckoning for the southeast Los Angeles County establishment, Soo Yoo has taken the lead against incumbent Sharon Quirk-Silva for California state assembly seat 67. Yoo is a current trustee for the ABC Unified School District. Last fall, she courageously stood up against the local Marxists, who falsely claimed she was a racist for encouraging Hispanics to spend money on their children’s education. (Yoo speaks Spanish and makes a point to reach out to Hispanics. At the event in question, it was largely non-Hispanics who were trying to race bait Hispanics into thinking Yoo was being racist against them.) Yoo currently has 50.02 percent of the vote, leading by a mere 262 votes. However, she has been gaining in her share of the vote with every ballot dump, meaning Quirk-Silva’s support appears to have largely come from the mail-in ballots that were first tabulated. See previous updates below.
District 67 is divided between Los Angeles and Orange counties. Combined, the race is 55.5 percent for Sharon Quirk-Silva (Democrat) and 44.5 percent for Soo Yoo (Republican). That is a spread of 5,265 votes (26,595 to 21,330 votes). See below for further background.
Soo Yoo is closing in on longtime incumbent Sharon Quirk-Silva. There is 5,141 votes for the incumbent (54.52 percent) to 4,289 for Yoo (45.48 percent). At just raw votes, this is the closest Republicans are to taking a seat away from Democrats in Los Angeles County.
Yoo is a pro-parental rights advocate who currently sits on the ABC Unified School Board, trustee area 2. She is famous for fighting the Marxists who tried to take over an anti-CRT meeting at the Cerritos Library in fall 2021. The Marxists attempted to call her racist, but Yoo stood her ground and gained respect. It’s an uphill climb for Yoo, who is also running again for her trustee seat in case she loses the state assembly race. (She is winning handily her trustee area at 57.18 percent.)
UPDATE 2 - Possible SHOCKER in ABC Unified, trustee area 6 (east Lakewood)
Veronica Lucio may just win an election after all. The Lakewood establishment’s candidate just two—yes, TWO—votes behind incumbent Olga Rios for trustee area 6 in east Lakewood. This would represent a huge gain for the Lakewood establishment (not necessarily a good thing) and a rebuke to those favoring abiding by county health policies in regards to Covid-19. (Many have criticized the ABC Unified’s board of trustees for the use of isolation rooms and other strict anti-Covid measures.) See previous updates below.
Veronica Lucio—backed by the Lakewood establishment in her failed City Council campaign against the hometown girl, progressive Cassandra Chase—is close to pulling off an upset. Olga Rios is the first east Lakewood trustee on ABC Unifed’s school board once they were forced to adopt district elections. She was even part of the initial push in forcing the district to adopt such a populist measure.
However, the race is neck and neck: Rios has 492 votes to Lucio’s 420 votes. Talk about a fight to the finish!
UPDATE 4: Measure CC - property tax that will enrich construction companies
The Measure CC property tax has almost been defeated. It currently sits at just 55.86 percent approval. It needs at least 55 percent approval to pass, per state law. See past updates below.
The Measure CC property tax is veering closer and closer to defeat. Per state law, the bond/tax increase must get 55 percent to pass. During the county’s first ballot dump, it had north of 59 percent. Two subsequent ballot dumps pushed it close to 57 percent. Now, it sits at 56.38 percent.
The Lakewood Populist will keep you updated on this story.
The vote is now at 57.18 percent, YES. Property-tax backers needs 55 percent-plus 1 of the vote to get their seemingly construction-project windfall, all at taxpayer expense. See more below.
The Lakewood Populist has reported how local construction companies have bankrolled the so-called Friends of Cerritos College - Yes on Measure CC campaign. AT $425 million, the bond will eventually increase property taxes by up to 60 percent in 2033. Per state law, backers must get 55 percent-plus one of the vote in order to get their property tax increase.
The first ballot dumped showed Measure CC passing by 59.12 percent. However, the second ballot dumped has put the construction companies’ seemingly get-rich scheme in jeopardy, with the measure now standing at 57.21 percent.
UPDATE 3 - Lakewood politico (probably) wins seat in Bellflower Unified School District
Brad Crihfield of northwest Lakewood has increased his lead to 172 votes: He has 4,104 votes to 3,932 by Amie Stewart, his next closest opponent. See previous updates below.
Brad Crihfield now leads by 110 votes over his next closet opponent. See previous updates below.
Brad Crihfield of northwest Lakewood looks set to win a seat on the Bellflower Unified School District. He has 25.55 percent of the vote or 3,643. His next closest opponent is Amie Stewart, who has won 3,605 votes.
Crihfield believes that the school lockdowns were terrible and should not have happened the way that they did.
UPDATE 2 - Republican may steal assembly seat from Democrat
District 40 is divided between Los Angeles and San Bernardino counties. This race is CLOSE: 51.4 percent for Pilar Schiavo (Democrat) to 48.6 percent for Suzette Martinez Valladares. That represents a spread of just 1,834 votes (34,441 to 32,607 votes). See below for more information.
Republican Suzette Valladares is only down by less than 2,000 votes to Democrat Pilar Schiavo for assembly district 40. This is TIGHT.
Cerritos College Trustee No. 7
Zurich Lewis of La Mirada is the only one to have fought Cerritos College’s vaccine and mask mandates, as well as the Cerritos College Board of Trustee’s discrimination against unvaccinated students, faculty and staff.
Lewis is winning, garnering 69.13 percent of the vote.
Long Beach Unified - district 1
Maria Isabel Lopez is in a runoff against the establishment/teachers’ union-backed candidate, Nubia Flores. Word is that Lopez was actually declared the winner by the county back during the June election but that seemingly questionable activity resulted in this going to a runoff. The Lakewood Populist hopes to do a story about this soon.
Lopez is winning at 53.07 percent.
County Measure A - The right to vote may be SURRENDERED!
The Democratic establishment of Los Angeles County has declared war against Sheriff Alex Villanueva. Cities have complained that the county board of trustees is stopping them contracting with the sheriff’s department for more deputies. Another part of their anti-law and order campaign is Measure A, which will allow them to fire a DEMOCRATICALLY-ELECTED OFFICIAL “for cause.”
Measure A looks set to pass at 71.46 percent.
Law and Order about to get WORSE! (probably)
Robert Luna, police chief for the Long Beach Police Department, is the Democratic establishment-backed candidate to take down Sheriff Alex Villanueva, who has been the lone wolf fighting the Marxist-induced crime wave.
Luna—who has *cough, couch* done a terrific job in fighting crime in Long Beach—is up at 60.24%.
