Interactive map: E. Lakewood homicides
Nearly half of Lakewood's homicides have occurred east of the San Gabriel River.
Here is an interactive map of all the homicides in east Lakewood (anything in Lakewood, California, east of the San Gabriel River) since the year 2000.
|This information comes from the Los Angeles Times and doesn't cover all the homicides known to have occurred in east Lakewood. (There is at least another homicide that occurred on Pioneer Blvd. and Centralia Street in 2009 that wasn't listed in the LA Times data.)
Names and ages, as well as how each victim was killed, can be found by clicking on the "death" icons in the map.
The homicides include a controversial shooting by an off-duty officer, two stabbings and large amount of shootings. Since 2000, the entire city of Lakewood has had 38 homicides, according to the incomplete LA Times data sheet.
Of those homicides, nearly half (18 to be exact) have occurred in east Lakewood, about a quarter of the city's land mass. Using Google Maps' measuring tool, you will see that most of these homicides occurred within a distance of 0.87 miles from one another.
