Lakewood’s private security patrol program has so far garnered one arrest, one complaint, and positive social media comments, per Josh Yordt, director of public safety.
The city implemented the $175,000 pilot public safety program about three or four weeks ago, said Yordt last week. The city needs another couple of months to determine whether to continue with the three-month program.
“At this point it is going well,” Yordt said.
However, one resident has complained about a security guard being rude and overbearing, said Yordt. The city has no conduct policy for the guards, he said.
“They are to act in a professional and courteous manner,” Yordt said. “They are in essence agents of the city.”
It was unclear if a daily patrol log of the security guards, which the Lakewood Populist reported on earlier, was available to the public.
There has been no movement on upgrading to armed guards, Yordt said. He added that they patrol the entire city.

Much of this occurred after we posted a critical story on an incumbent Lakewood Councilmember and on Cerritos College’s CCP-styled monitoring of students. In fact, we are barely able to publish things on our Facebook page due to Facebook suspiciously not allowing images of certain articles to show up on our Facebook page’s post. We also have witnessed the view counts of our YouTube videos being lowered.

It's unfortunate that we need a policy or directive to tell employees serving the public to be kind.
Typically new employees are especially kind. Hmmm
There were mixed emotions about hiring a company like this. The person quoted might be one of the people who were against it. I agree with you, I can't imagine these newly hired people working nights just being eyes and ears, interacting at all.
