Campaign records show that Councilman Todd Rogers received near-half his “monetary contributions” from one source in 2017.
Del Records Inc. made two campaign contributions to Rogers’ 2017 campaign: $5,000 on January 27, 2017; and, $2,000 on March 31, 2017. This cumulative $7,000 donation by a single source amounted to near half of Rogers’ $15,281 in “monetary contributions” for his 2017 reelection campaign.
The Lakewood Populist made a public’s records request for Rogers’ Form 460s from the 2017 City Council elections. Such elections have since been moved to even-numbered years.
The California Real Estate PAC (CREPAC), which falls under the California Association of Realtors, also donated $1,000 to Rogers’ 2017 reelection campaign.
The Lakewood Populist has reported how the realtors’ association also sponsors a nonprofit that sue cities for failing to comply with housing density mandates. Anti-housing mandate leaders have told the Lakewood Populist that it is contradictory for someone who says they are against housing mandates to accept donations from such organizations.
Rogers and Mayor Steve Croft, whose 2017 reelection campaign also received $1,000 from CREPAC, both say they oppose housing mandates.
The Lakewood Populist received from the City Clerk’s office the 2017 campaign files, or Form 406s, on Friday and doesn’t have enough time or manpower to further investigate this before today’s election.
