Video: 'THE PURGE' in Lakewood, pt. 2

LAKEWOOD, CALIF. — A group of youth smashed a Lakewood woman’s car and one prepared to club her after she discovered them stealing her catalytic converter at her side door.

Here six youth are seen walking out of two vehicles as they prepare to walk onto Lakewood residents’ property, steal the catalytic converter, smash the tailights and threaten to bash the woman’s head.

“The guys are out to hurt somebody,” said the female resident, who was endangered with a club on March 5 at around 5:44 a.m. at her home. “They’re holding crowbars and bats and they’re out to do some damage if somebody approaches them. So it’s kind of scary.”

The Lakewood Populist reported how another man and his neighbors that same day reported their cars being smashed and burglarized in a similar fashion. One of the men, Sean Dolan, said video of the incident reminded people of ‘The Purge’, a film in which unabated hooliganism is allowed to run rampant for one night.

Dolan’s incident occurred on Autry Street between Candlewood Boulevard and Del Amo Boulevard. He brought up the incident at a March 8 City Council meeting. The female resident, whose name is being withheld for her safety, had her car vandalized nearby.

Video of the incident showed masked youth driving up a street in two vehicles. They parked alongside the female resident’s house before pulling out clubs and equipment, jacking up her car and proceeding to saw off her catalytic converter.

Soon, the female resident can be heard yelling at the youth. Thereafter one of the youths began to curse at her, smashing her taillights.

“I was banging on the windows...screaming,” said the female resident, who in July 2021 had a similar incident and was able to scare off the would-be thieves by confronting them.

This time, however, the hooligans were apparently out for blood.

This hooligan is walking up to the female resident’s side door, where he will hold the club above his head, apparently ready to strike the woman if she had walked outside.

After yelling at the female resident, one of the two youths with clubs walked up to her side door and held the club above his head. He was apparently ready to strike the woman if she had stepped outside her home.

The incident, which took place in about a minute and 15 seconds occurred a few blocks behind the Lakewood Sheriff’s station.

“That really doesn’t do you any good,” said the female resident, regarding her proximity to law enforcement.

By the time neighbors came out, the hooligans were long gone.

The woman and her husband had another attempt on one of their vehicles in early 2021, making this the third attempted-or-actual vehicle burglary-robbery they have endured in about a year.
